We don’t hear much about the classic Chibi Maruko-chan around here for a lot of reasons but it’s always good when it pops up in Japan. The latest news is that TC Entertainment is putting together some collections for the show as part of its 30th-anniversary. Set for a November 27th, 2020, and December 23rd, 2020 release, there will be two Blu-ray collections which looks like each set will have three discs first. The first collection will cover the first 70 episodes while the second will cover through episode 142.

There are two episodes missing from this set with 8 and 77 being excluded due to rights issues even though they were on previous DVD editions. With regional availability different and possibly other issues, it’s likely due to the Momoe Yamaguchi songs – one of which includes footage from her concert according to Zhou in the forums. That could certainly complicate things that may be more costly than TC Entertainment wants to deal with.

Property concept: Momoko Sakura is an elementary school student who likes popular idol Momoe Yamaguchi and mangas. She is often called “Chibi Maruko-chan” due to her young age and small size. She lives together with her parents, her grandparents and her elder sister in a little town. In school, she has many friends with whom she studies and plays together everyday, including her close pal, Tama-chan; the student committee members, Maruo-kun and Migiwa-san; and the B-class trio: ‘little master’ Hanawa-kun, Hamaji-Bu Taro and Sekiguchi-kun. This is a fun-loving and enjoyable anime that portrays the simple things in life.
