Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten from the August 2020 installment, Under a Single Roof is a twenty-four-page story from creator Momoduki Suzu, who has about two dozen other works on the service. I’m always keen on checking out someone I haven’t read before and when it’s a twenty-four page piece there’s definitely the best chance of getting a feel for their storytelling style, how well they manage backgrounds, and the character designs themselves. Suzu’s work is pretty solid all-around here and they’re someone I can definitely see myself checking out more of their stuff, especially since this one is in some “safe” tag zones, going for adult characters and an office lady situation at that. It may play out leading lady to be a little too meek for my tastes but it first the story well, too.

The premise for this introduces us to the young-ish office lady Yukimura, a hard-working woman who is all-professional at work and looks great, though the company obviously prefers short skirts and the whole tight plain white button-down shirts that shows off what she has in spades. She’s organizing for an overnight corporate trip/meeting and one of her coworkers, Yamane is the benefit of that as he’s able to use the hard work to the company’s advantage. But he feels bad because he’s swamped and taking on a lot of other people’s work as well, which is why Yukimura has helped. The meeting itself isn’t dealt with but the partying afterward is and we see how the pervy manage made sure that Yukimura came along so he could play and grope at her a bit, which she expected but still unhappy about. Yamane naturally helps out a bit in a subtle way but there’s just that lingering discomfort.

Where things get really problematic, however, is upon checking in at the hotel that evening as they left early to get Yukimura out of there, a mistake was made and the two are sharing a single room with a double bed. It’s almost comical how much they apologize to each other once in the room but she makes it clear she wants him to stay. The shyness is dialed up a good deal here on her part and it has its moments of being cute but eventually, the two are fully on the same page, which leads to the bulk of the installment being all about them exploring each other. I won’t say she set up the room situation but it wouldn’t surprise me, and we see her explaining why she likes him at work and was interested in this with him here, which gives it a bit of a wider view. It’s kind of standard office lady material in a way with hentai but Suzu’s able to draw in some really nice dialogue with it and a good sense of feeling between the two, even if she plays the usual female character in hentai that’s squeamish about being looked at and touched when it’s what they do want.

In Summary
As an introductory story for me to this creator, it’s definitely a good one. You get a good sense of their pacing and style of storytelling, the kind of acts they excel at, and a look at the character designs – which includes how well the male characters are treated. It’s a good range here and there’s a lot to like, making them an easy follow. The story is straightforward and it pushes a good emotional connection that just falls a little short for me because of how Yukimura’s personality is revealed during parts of it. The interactions between the two definitely delivers, however, and it’s a good slow build with a very enthusiastic pair of characters which is what counts.
