Bandai Visual Reveals ‘Ultraman’ Anime Blu-ray Box Set Packaging

2 min read
After being delayed back in April, a new release date is set.

With all thirteen episodes of the 3DCG Ultraman series made available worldwide on Netflix back on April 1st, 2019 – and a second season on the way, a home video release for the first season was recently scheduled. Bandai Visual had set a June 24th, 2020 debut for a complete first season box set that will be priced at 30,000 yen but real world events caused them to pull that from the schedule as replication and distribution was uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the new release date set for the series recently with an August 27th, 2020 debut – a date that’s getting pretty busy as it looks like a lot of things are going to roll out that day in Japan – the full packaging spread has now arrived for it that gives it a good sense of weight.

The set comes with a special box design and includes a 44-page booklet, an 84-page work booklet, a season summary, and the clean opening and closing along with a new making-of documentary.

The Japanese cast includes Ryohei Kimura as Shinjiro Hayata, Takuya Eguchi as Dan Moroboshi, Megumi Han as Seiji Hokuto, Hideyuki Tanaka as Shin Ha, Sumire Morohoshi as Rena Sayama, Ken Uo as Mitsuhiro Ide, Shigeru Ushiyama as Edo, Ryota Takeuchi as Jack, Eiji Hanawa as Yosuke Endo, Hirokazu Sekido as Kurata, Kenjiro Tsuda as Adad, Minoru Shiraishi as Shiraishi, and Kaiji Soze as Bemlar.

The manga comes from Eichi Shimizu an Tomohiro Shimoguchi which began in 2011 and has eleven volumes out so far. Viz Media is bringing the manga out in North America with ten volumes out so far.

Plot Concept: Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary “Giant of Light” (光の巨人 Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father’s revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
