The Weekly TV Discussion Post For August 9th, 2020

So. Much. TV.

The summer TV season here and boy am I feeling bland. A lot of what I’ve been watching has been catch-up with my eldest daughter or I’ve found myself just digging into some sitcom material from a decade ago to kind of clear my mind.

While not a TV series, we did check out the debut of Palm Springs on Hulu recently and had stupid fun with The Kissing Booth 2.

This week had me focusing on just a couple of things. The primary thing I mostly “binged” on was Brave New World. I’ve not touched the book since I was a teenager so I barely remember and I’m not making comparisons between the two. I’m definitely enjoying it but wishing they’d lean into some aspects more with how New London operates and explore more of that world. It’s definitely a lot of fun and I love the Harry Lloyd guy who I just saw in Counterpart and Jessica Brown Findley is always a joy.

With that out of the way, I’ve started up on the third and final season of The Rain but the show always feels odd and it takes a couple of episode to connect with.

I also tried to get a bit further with Locke & Key but just managed one episode. It feels like a show I should just be totally in sync with but it’s just not connecting.

I finished out my Big Bang Theory rewatch so I was looking for “Comfort Food” kind of end of night sitcom/comedy stuff. I realized I never watched Cougartown and there are a few seasons of that with people I like. I’m only a few episodes into it but it definitely makes for a good way to shift the brain into a lower gear just before bed while smiling.

And, again, not a TV show, but my daughter and I burned through all three Berserk films after finishing off the TV series earlier this spring and wanting to revisit it in this form. Ooof. I still really enjoy these movies.

What are you watching?
