While we’ve seen digital distribution and promotion of this series through RetroCrush recently, the folks at Discotek Media have picked up the rights to New Getter Robo. The thirteen-episode series was previously licensed, dubbed, and released by Geneon Entertainment. Discotek Media has set an October 27th, 2020 debut for their bilingual release that will be priced at $39.95. They’ve released the cover artwork to the right for it but no extras are currently listed for it.
The series is an alternate retelling of the Getter Robo story that’s self-contained. It originally came out as a thirteen-episode OVA series released between 2004 and 2006 and was licensed and released by Geneon Entertainment. It was directed by Jun Kawagoe and was produced by Dynamic Planning and Bandai Visual with Brain’s Base handling the animation.
Plot concept:
Huge monsters stalk the Earth! Resembling the ancient legend of Oni, the monsters begin attacking the laboratory where Prof. Saotome is developing the Getter Robo, a robot so powerful it overwhelms ordinary pilots! Prof. Saotome then locates three of the most dangerous men on the planet to draft as pilots: Ryoma the fighter, Hayato the berserker, and Benkei the giant!
