The journey for Symphogear is an unusual one and a property that hasn’t seen a pickup until now after getting underway back in 2012. Discotek Media has announced their pickup of the show at Otakon 2019 with plans for the first season to arrive in 2020 on Blu-ray. That’s now been scheduled as the distributor has revealed an October 27th, 2020 debut for it.
The set will be in its original Japanese language with English subtitles and come with commercials, promos, and the clean opening and closing while promising that there are more to come. It’ll contain the full thirteen-episode run for $39.95.
The franchise began back in 2012 with more seasons coming out fairly regularly since then. Animated by Satelight, the show has delivered lots of music and merchandise for the producers to maximize with.
Funimation originally streamed the first season of the series but passed on the others as they did not pursue a home video license. All seasons are currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
Plot concept: With the coming of spring, Hibiki Tachibana and Miku Kohinata start their first year in high school school at the prestigious Lydian Music Academy. That their idol, the singer Tsubasa Kazanari, also attends Lydian is just an added bonus. Neither of them know that their lives are about to change forever. Neither of them know that the first, awakening beat is almost upon them.
