Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians unite to save Earth from an alien force!

Viz Media is continuing to expand their offerings on the Funimation streaming service as it becomes less about just Funimation titles only. One of those releases will go live on August 7th, 2020 with the Sailor Moon R anime feature film. The feature is the first time the property will show up on Funimation and they’re definitely excited to share it. It’s presumed to be bilingual as we saw Hunter x Hunter to be but they aren’t explicit in saying it.

The film was originally released in 1993 and saw home video release previously from Geneon Entertainment. The film was directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara based on the screenplay by Sukehiro Tomia with character designs by Kazuko Tadano.

The Japanese cast includes Aya Hisakawa as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Emi Shinohara as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter, Kotono Mitsuishi as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, Michie Tomizawa as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Rica Fukami as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus, Kae Araki as Chibi Usa, Keiko Han as Luna, Tohru Furuya as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Kamen, Yasuhiro Takato as Artemis and Hikaru Midorikawa as Fiore.

The English cast includes Stephanie Sheh as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, Kate Higgins as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Amanda C. Miller as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter, Cherami Leigh as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus, Cristina Vee as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Johnny Yong Bosch as Artemis, Michelle Ruff as Luna, Robbie Daymond as Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask, Sandy Fox as Chibiusa and Ben Diskin as Fiore.

Plot concept: Long before Mamoru found his destiny with Usagi, he gave a single rose in thanks to a lonely boy who helped him recover from the crash that claimed his parents. This long-forgotten friend, Fiore, has been searching the galaxy for a flower worthy of that sweet gesture long ago. The mysterious flower he finds is beautiful, but has a dark side- it has the power to take over planets. To make matters worse, the strange plant is tied to an ominous new asteroid near Earth! Faced with an enemy blooming out of control, It’s up to Sailor Moon and the Sailor Guardians to band together, stop the impending destruction and save Mamoru!
