The summer TV season here and boy am I feeling bland. A lot of what I’ve been watching has been catch-up with my eldest daughter or I’ve found myself just digging into some sitcom material from a decade ago to kind of clear my mind.

While not a TV series, we did check out the debut of Palm Springs on Hulu recently

The high heat and humidity of this past week made it hard to really get into things. Strangely, I found myself looking for basic comfort laughs later in the night by watching the twelfth and final season of The Big Bang Theory. I’ve enjoyed the show since the beginning and it was a weekly visit with good friends in a way as time went on. So moving through the final season as things are put in place and you get that sense of finality coming is welcome.

I did make it through the remainder of the Batwoman series that aired which was better than the earlier episodes. But the playing up of the Alice/Batwoman thing like Joker/Batman just isn’t going to work for me. I don’t mind a season-long villain but keeping Alice for the big picture regular stuff will just drag the show down. Hush was a nice addition and I enjoyed some of the other things like Magpie’s return. I’m still not sure what to make of Julia Pennyworth, however.

I continue to make slow progress on Counterpart because I know it’s already done and over with but also because it’s getting more complex as more characters come on and trying to remember everything is getting harder. Bah! So good, though!

I did cap off the week with a new movie by watching The Kissing Booth 2, a sequel to the 2018 film that did well for Netflix. The film is basic teen romantic comedy material and there are no surprises here but growing up on this kind of material in the 80s, which might at times have had a raunchier edge to it, is fun. I’ve always enjoyed this kind of goofy stuff that you’re not supposed to take seriously but rather ride the emotional wave of. It’s not the kind of film that I go around recommending or anything because those who like this kind of thing know about it and have likely already watched it. I’m stupidly hopeful for a third because I like the cast and this one had a fun side trip to Boston that was a great bit of PR for the city.
