GKIDS Reveals New ‘Princess Mononoke’ Anime DVD/BD Steelbook Edition

GKIDS Films has another piece of the steelbook run of titles for the Studio Ghibli line with Princess Mononoke. The film is now scheduled for an October 20th, 2020 debut where it’ll be a DVD/BD edition in steelbook form that looks like the picture to the right. It’s priced at $21.99 and you can see it for preorder here.

The film recently had a collector’s edition release debut where it came in a hard slipcase with a book and a soundtrack CD alongside the Blu-ray for the film priced at $49.97. On-disc special features include the feature-length storyboards, original trailers, TV spots, Princess Mononoke in the USA, and Behind the Microphone.

The set comes with a 40-page book that features new essays by film critic Glenn Kenny (The New York Times, RogerEbert.com) alongside imagery and statements from director Hayao Miyazaki and producer Toshio Suzuki, and Miyazaki’s poems about the characters.

Plot concept: Inflicted with a deadly curse, a young warrior named Ashitaka sets out for the forests of the west in search of the cure that will save his life. Once there, he becomes inextricably entangled in a bitter battle that matches Lady Eboshi and a proud clan of humans against the forest’s animal gods…who are led by the brave Princess Mononoke, a young woman raised by wolves!
