Frontier Works Schedules 20th-Anniversary ‘Ninja Nonsense’ Anime Blu-ray Box Set

2 min read
It's time to get very silly.

Ninja Nonsense Blu-ray CoverThe folks at Frontier Works are getting ready to celebrate the Ninja Nonsense property with a 20th-anniversary edition using the anime series. The twelve-episode run is originally known as 2 X 2 = Shinobuden and is based on the manga by Ryoichi Koga which began in 2000. This new edition, which saw a Blu-ray release back in 2015, will arrive on July 22nd, 2020 priced at 10,780 yen.  Which is more than half off the price of the previous set. This set is the same as the previous one which is spread across two discs and is an upconversion.

As we’re closing in on that in a couple of weeks, we now have a look at the packaging for it as it uses the familiar visuals from releases years ago but with a clean and appealing approach that will definitely make it inviting.

Originally airing in the summer 2004 season, the English dub was produced by NYAV Post with Mar Diraison and Michael Sinterniklaas directing. The cast includes Dave Willis as Sasuke (1-3), Jason Linder as Sasuke (4 – 12),  Emily Blau as Shinobu, Meredith Zeitlin as Kaede Shiranui, Sean Schemmel as Onsokumaru, Veronica Taylor as Miyabi and Zoe Martin as Kaede Shiranui.

Check out our review of the 2018 Blu-ray release of the series here as well as our Ten Years Later retrospective!

Plot concept: Take one totally cute (and naive) ninja-girl trainee, add a ninja horde under the tutelage of the weirdest headmaster ever – a strange, yellow, spherical, pudgy… creature… named Onsokumaru – and you get the kind of “super-explosive ninja insanity” that can only be found in what’s been called “the runaway nuclear reactor” of anime comedies!
