Set for a July 10th, 2020 debut, Netflix dropped the first trailer for The Old Guard about a month ago. The project is a new feature film based on the comic series of the same name by writer Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez and now the first clip from it has arrived to highlight the action and some character personality that comes through without any dialogue.
The project is one that definitely appeals in playing to an immortal army working in the shadows and it looks to be another solid action film for Charlize Theron following up on projects like Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde.
The film comes from Skydance Media and was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood based on the screenplay by Greg Rucka. It began filming this time back in 2019 in Europe after starting the development process back in 2017 when Skydance Media acquired the rights. Netflix acquired it in March 2019.
The cast includes Charlize Theron as Andy (Andromache of Scythia), KiKi Layne as Nile Freeman, Marwan Kenzari as Joe (Yusuf Al-Kaysani), Matthias Schoenaerts as Booker (Sebastian le Livre), Luca Marinelli as Nicky (Nicolo di Genova), Chiwetel Ejiofor as Copley, Harry Melling, and Veronica Ngo.
Plot Concept: Forever is harder than it looks. Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.
