This is the saga of Yorick Brown—the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome.

Running under the Vertigo imprint back in 2002 before finishing up in 2008, the series Y: The Last Man was set up at FX since 2015 in trying to bring it to reality. The sixty-issue series from Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra has gone through a couple of attempts and it finally got a series order back in February 2019 with it planned for 2020 that we’re no longer expecting. The latest update on the program has come in the form of a new location for it as the linear FX network won’t be hosting it but rather their FX on Hulu branding. This just further makes you wonder how long FX will be around as they keep putting more and more programming on this Hulu branding. No dates or anything new was mentioned otherwise in regards to the series.

The announced main cast so far includes:

  • Diane Lane as Senator Jennifer Brown
  • Ben Schnetzer as Yorick Brown
  • Imogen Poots as Hero Brown (Green Room, Frank & Lola)
  • Lashana Lynch as Agent 355 (Captain Marvel, Bulletproof),
  • Juliana Canfield as Beth (Succession)
  • Marin Ireland Nora (Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water)
  • Elliot Fletcher as Sam Jordan

The description of the series from FX reads with, “Y traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.”

Plot concept: This is the saga of Yorick Brown—the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, Yorick travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.
