“Chapter Twenty-Four – Knight Orders and Requests”

What They Say:

Avid bookworm and college student Motosu Urano ends up dying in an unforeseen accident. This came right after the news that she would finally be able to work as a librarian like she had always dreamed of. When she regains consciousness. She was reborn as Myne, the daughter of a poor soldier. She was in the town of Ehrenfest, which has a harsh class system. But as long as she had books, she really didn’t need anything else. However, books were scarce and belonged only to the nobles. But that doesn’t stop her, so she makes a decision … “If there aren’t any books, I’ll just create some.”

Content (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):

With the Head Priest’s statement that Myne must remain at the cathedral over winter, the young apprentice priestess sees no option for this demand from her employment, especially since this is the reason why she was chosen as a blue-robe; due to the Devouring, the church allowed her to stay in order to recharge holy relics, and during this season the Dedication Ceremony takes place, and thus, there is no avoiding the circumstances. However, while she may have resigned to this decision, Urano must still convince her family this is for the best, especially Gunther. After arriving home, her father is wary his daughter has called another conference, plus his attitude becomes no better once she reveals the new living conditions. Although the child tries to highlight this opportunity also allows her to take care of the kids within the orphanage, and while Fran may be able to monitor her condition, they are still worried about allowing a sickly seven-year-old stay away for such an extended period, but their temperament improves once she tells they can visit as often as they like.

After Eva offers to visit as much as she can, and Tuli also wishes to come in order to learn how to read and show the kids how to sew, Gunther is the only one who feels left out, until Myne asks if he can help the orphanage in their pork stocking, which immediately brightens his outlook. With their permission now secured, the girl also follows through with a prior conversation with the High Priest if they can make glue and candles over the winter period, and as long as she finishes before the other blue robes return, there should be no problems. After all the winter preparations are complete, Urano sits down in order to come up with a new idea for the next book, but Fran interrupts his mistress with a special request from the knight order to have a priestess attend an upcoming event. Although it is not a high priority like the Dedication Ceremony, the cathedral has an obligation to the group in supplying one of their own to recite the necessary scriptures. However when she asks why Ferdinand is not attending in her place as a higher official, the retainer can only rely on his former master must prioritize his noble duties before those of the church.

In Summary:

This episode marks the first step in Myne’s independence, but at the same time it is mournful to see such a young girl being separated from her family due to prior obligations, but it was all worth it to see Gunther once again sulk over being neglected by his daughter. And yet this sad moment is balanced by the reveal of what we expected within a fantasy isekai – the welcomed introduction of magic which was hinted at within the new opening sequence. However as Myne is shown another ugly side of nobility, we cannot but wait with excitement in how she will upset more of these haughty people by showing them interesting ways of doing things.
