The House Spirit Tatami-chan Episode #08 Anime Review

2 min read

“A Party of Monsters!”

What They Say:
Cute but rude! Tatami-chan is a crazy-cute heroine taking on the ghosts, spirits, and even humans residing in the Tokyo metropolitan area in the new Reiwa era! Oshikiri’s unique style is on full display in this thrilling horror-gag comedy, coming soon! This episode has Tatami heading to Karaoke Sound to experience what it’s like in the big city since they’re everywhere.

The series hasn’t been great to start with but I’ve clung onto it as the only short I have right now and a little something is better than nothing, which I may not be able to say much longer. After a really bad episode last week, this week meets up with the gang at a drinking party together where it’s a “real monster mash” as Tatami says. It’s not exactly the most upbeat party at first as they talk about how they survive on the outskirts of humanity and the things they face there. And a lot of anger over drinks not being served quickly. And then it devolves faster as they look to split the 35,000 yen bill and we see just how bad a friend most of them are as they slip away and disappear, making those remaining even angrier.

In Summary:
Tatami-chan quickly wore out its welcome as it got underway but it had a few moments here and there, which is what it feels like one can say about this episode. There are a few cute bits but it’s mostly just a lot of time seeing everyone finding their own unique way to sneak out of the bill and ditch the Tickling Priest with it. Which was a given once the setup was revealed. Again, there are a few bits here and there to chuckle over but that’s barely it.
