Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten BEAST from the June 2020 installment, When You Wish Upon a Nurse is a twenty-page story from creator Nicoby, who has just a couple of other works on the service. Nicoby caught my eye originally with a volleyball chapter and there’s some obvious fun there but it also has some mild yuri leanings that it doesn’t engage with but teases nicely. With this, I’ve admittedly avoided a lot of nurse material for quite a long time because of how much hentai anime engages in it but I liked what I saw from Nicoby before and figured I’d put my toe back in the water with it. At the least, I’d get some nice designs and I wasn’t expecting anything like some of the really disturbing nurse hentai from the early 2000s.
The story focuses on a nurse named Amano who is taking care of her patients pretty well but she’s got a real fetish. When she’s trying to get the young kid Shouta to take his shot and he runs into Sudou’s room, she instead gives it to him to show just how easy it is. But when she does it the whole thing is hugely erotic. As it turns out, Amano has a real thing for veins in the body and the way Sudou’s are set up really get her pretty intense about it – but not like aroused or anything. It’s just her thing. So later that night when he’s walking back to his room from the bathroom, she asks him for some help in checking out his veins a bit more while explaining her detailed fascination with them. He’s all too willing to oblige but is a bit horrified when the blood rushes down under and makes her very aware of what she’s doing to him – which was never her intention.
This is where things get dicey as the kind of consent she gives isn’t the best and he’s taking far more advantage of the situation than he should, as she’s basically just accepting it as happening no matter what. If that’s an issue, this chapter ain’t for you. It’s a lot of foreplay at first while groping around in the dark but it gets more into it pretty quickly from there. With the first ten pages being story setup, the back ten goes into the action as much as it can and visually it does a good job. The designs look great, even if Amano is a bit more stacked in her design than feels realistic in some ways, and separating from the story the action itself is good. There’s some strong and intense moments as it progresses and even a chance of being caught along the way as Amano gives into it more and more, particularly as she can see his veins straining from an angle she normally wouldn’t.
In Summary
While the story elements didn’t come together well for me to find the coupling engaging, I did like Amano’s fetish as it was revealed and just how into it she was. It was cute in its own way and delivered something silly and adorable. When it shifts gears, it’s easier to just admire the artwork and ignore the story elements and go from there. Nicoby continues to have some really nice designs overall and I like that they give as much space to story as they do. There’s just the need for something better in the scripting so that it doesn’t lean to the old tropes so much.
