WIT Studio has a big new project coming up this summer with Great Pretender that looks to still be on track for its Japanese debut. The show will drop on Netflix on June 2nd, 2020 in Japan but will begin its broadcast release on July 8th, 2020, giving Netflix a small exclusive window. With that in mind, a new promo has arrived that has revealed that the show has cover song of the series title that was originally done by The Platters, but this version is from Freddie Mercury. As noted, it’s the first time one of Mercury’s works has been used for a theme song. Check it out below!

Interestingly, Netflix will be releasing it in batches with five episodes on the 2nd and 9th and then four on the 16th. The remaining episodes will be set for a date later. Each batch corresponds to a case within the show.

Check out the promo below and the new Tweet with a new key visual and the schedule itself.

The series is directed by Hiro Kaburagi based on the scripts from Ryota Kosawa. Yoshiyuki Sadamoto is on the character designs and Hirotaka Kato is serving as the chief animation director along with Kyoji Asano.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Chiaki Kobayashi as Makoto “Edamame” Edamura
  • Junichi Suwabe as Laurent Thierry
  • Natsumi Fujiwara as Abigail “Aby” Jones
  • Mie Sonozaki as Paula Dickins

Check out the official site and Twitter.

Plot Concept: Makoto Edamura is supposedly Japan’s greatest swindler. Together with his partner Kudo, they try to trick a Frenchman in Asakusa but unexpectedly get tricked instead. The Frenchman, whom they tried to swindle, turns out to be Laurent Thierry- a much higher-level ‘confidence man,’ in control of the mafias. Edamura is yet to find out what fate awaits him, after having engaged in the Frenchman’s dirty jobs…!
