What they say
PREPARE FOR A FULL DIVE!

The crimes of the Acceleration Research Society are numerous and unforgivable. The White Legion, Oscillatory Universe—suspected to be connected to the Society—will answer for their atrocities. After intense negotiations, Nega Nebulus and Prominence take the final plunge and become one unified Legion to confront White Cosmos and her enigmatic entourage. But Haruyuki can hardly wrap his mind around the increased might of his Legion now that it’s tripled in size! He’ll need to keep his wits about him, though, because the biggest surprise is yet to come.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Where do I begin on Accel World volume 20? Well, to start, I feel like almost nothing happened despite how much content this volume is filled with.

The very first volume begins with Nega Nebulus and Prominence merging to create what’s called a Great Legion, which is just a legion that’s bigger than the average. Other Great Legions consist of Great Wall, Leonids, Cryptic Cosmic Circus, Aurora Oval, and Oscillatory Universe. Of course, nothing is ever simple. What should have been a pain-free merger becomes a battle when one of the Prominence members declares he refuses to join because of some dispute he has with Haruyuki…something about how Haruyuki declared poisons don’t work on him back in volume 3 or 4.

I didn’t particularly care for this meeting. I felt it took way longer than necessary. The entire battle and spat between Haruyuki and Iodine Sterilizer made the meeting drag on for way too long and it didn’t seem like there was any purpose for it other than padding the flagging word count. Speaking of, this volume was only 178 pages long. That’s very short. Of course, that seems to be par for the course with this series lately. I feel like the publishers are doing their best to drag this series out by making light novels shorter in order to publish more volumes.

After the meeting in which Prominence and Nega Nebulus merge, the story switches to Koto and Yuki Takanouchi. Their Burst Linker names are Magnanese Blade and Cobalt Blade. In the previous volume, Haruyuki convinced them to help him discover whether or not Oscillatory Universe was the true creator of the Acceleration Research Society. Their job is basically to check the matchup listings once Nega Nebulus wins in the Territory War against Oscillatory Universe. There’s a rule in Brain Burst that when someone owns a territory, they can hide their names from the Brain Burst net so no one can challenge them, but that will change if a Legion loses their territory. Manganese Blade and Cobalt Blade are a third-party and therefore can be relied upon to deliver accurate information to the Kings of the other Great Legions.

A very complicated plan to confront Oscillatory Universe is put in place. Nega Nebulus will travel via bus through the several Territories, which will be ceded to them by Great Wall. The plan goes off without a hitch and Nega Nebulus then initiates a Territory battle against Oscillatory Universe. And then the volume ends. Like that. Just like that. During the battle with Glacier Behemoth, a mysterious figure appears and launches some kind of special technique and that was it.

In Summary
While the volume itself had a lot of interesting things happen, I really hate how slowly this series is going. Nothing seems to get resolved during this volume at all. I’m beginning to get annoyed by all the unresolved conflicts and feel like this series should either be longer or contain less filler padding its word count.
