The episode begins with a flashback from the perspective of Catarina’s friend in her previous life, Acchan. She first met Catarina when she fell on top of her from a tree. Catarina can’t resist climbing trees! From that day onward, they became best friends. It’s revealed that Acchan was a loner and Catarina showed her a brand new world. Each day was so much fun! Gone were the days of her reading alone and feeling lonely. Acchan was lucky to have found such an amazing friend! But things don’t last forever. Her best friend got into an accident and passed away. She was never coming back. On the way back from the funeral, Acchan checks her phone and sees the last text Catarina ever sent her. It was about not being able to conquer the black-hearted, sadistic prince in Fortune Lover. This causes Acchan to burst into tears. She’s crying. I may or may not be crying. Why am I getting slapped in the face with these feels!? Acchan wishes that if she ever has the chance to be reborn after her life ends, she’d love to be friends with her again. D’awww.
And you know what? I think her wish was granted! In the present, Sophia wakes up with tears in her eyes. This flashback was actually a dream she just had. I’m pretty sure this confirms that Acchan was reborn as Sophia. By the way, I totally called it. Sophia goes to see Catarina in her garden because she had a sudden urge to see her. She tells her about the sad dream she had. Catarina responds by saying that she’s just nervous about exams today. That seems legit. She’ll be fine! Speaking of exams though, Catarina is not a fan of them. Meeting time! Catarina would rather play all the time. Don’t we all? But they should really focus on the exams! If they don’t, they might trigger a doom ending where their mother kills them. That seems highly possible.
Their practical exam consists of exploring ancient ruins. The team that finds the stone inhabited by magical power will pass the exam. Basically, it’s a treasure hunt! It shouldn’t be too hard, right? Well, the ruins are designed like a maze and there are traps at every corner. Okay, maybe it won’t be that easy. Good luck! Catarina, Geordo, Keith, and Sophia are a team and they begin exploring the ruins. Unfortunately for them, Catarina immediately sets off numerous traps and they have to run for their lives. I would expect nothing less from Bakarina, haha. It’s a good thing Geordo, Keith, and Sophia have got her back! Elsewhere, the team of Alan, Mary, and Maria aren’t having much luck. They were fooled by a fake magical stone and Mary almost fell to her doom. Luckily, Alan was there to save her. Such a good fiancé!
Team Catarina is at a crossroads. Should they go left or right? Sophia manages to translate the text on a stone that suggests they go left. Naturally, Catarina wants to go right. Why? Because you always start with the dead ends in a dungeon. It’s totally a rule! There could be a treasure chest, too! Never change, Bakarina. Everyone thinks she’s being silly and make their way left. Good call. The team advances pretty far into the ruins thanks to Geordo and Keith’s helpful magic. Hey, Catarina also helped! There was a hole in the ground and she used her Earth Bump to cover it up! She just saved everyone’s lives! And then she proceeds to endanger everyone’s lives by triggering another trap, haha. While being protected by the others, Catarina triggers yet another trap and gets separated from the group. Oh no! What is she going to do? Emergency meeting! They never expected Catarina to trigger a doom flag that was unrelated to the game’s plot! There’s nothing they can do but keep moving and look for a way out. In the meantime, Catarina starts gathering mushrooms. She’s going to need food if no one finds her! Although, those mushrooms look quite poisonous. But what do I know? Also, there seems to be a shadow following her.
The others are informed that Catarina has gone missing. Sophia remembers the sad dream she had this morning and gets a bad feeling. They have to find her! Nicol comes up with the idea to pick up her voice using his wind magic. Sophia helps him and they manage to locate her. What’s Catarina doing? Welp, she’s still gathering those poisonous mushrooms. But at least she’s doing it in style! She found a shiny stone along the way that she’s been using as a knife. Out of nowhere, she falls and is barely hanging onto the side of a cliff. She loses her grip and starts falling. Is this end for our heroine!? Nay! Sophia swoops down and grabs her hand! However, she can barely hang on. Catarina tells her to let go but she refuses! She’ll never let go! She doesn’t want to lose her again! Thankfully, they’re saved by a gust of wind. Was that Sophia’s magic? Actually, it wasn’t. Who the heck saved them!? Was it that mysterious shadow? Whatever! What’s important is that they’re safe. They have a tearful embrace. Everyone else joins them a few moments later and Mary sneaks in a hug with Catarina. You’ve got to respect her aggressiveness. Remember that shiny stone Catarina was using as a knife? Turns out it’s the stone that’s inhabited by magical power. What a coincidence! It looks like her group passes the exam. To celebrate, she’s throwing a mushroom party! The boys point out that the mushrooms seem to be poisonous. On the other hand, Mary and Sophia proclaim that they will eat anything Catarina offers them…even if it means death! I think we all know that they’re serious, too.
This episode had a good balance of emotional moments and hilarious antics. The beginning particularly fascinated me. It’s rare for isekai series to show us what the effects of the main character’s death have on people they knew in their previous life. In the case of Acchan, she was heartbroken that she lost the only friend she had. Catarina had changed her whole world. And then she was gone. I appreciated that the show acknowledged the pain she felt when Catarina passed away. I wish more isekai shows would explore the reactions of the people left behind. That being said, I’m glad that Acchan was able to reunite with her friend in the next life! I had a feeling that she was reborn as Sophia. I love being right! It’ll be interesting to see if she ever remembers her previous life. If she does, will she and Catarina become even closer? Will Sophia automatically win her heart!? Will Mary end up murdering Sophia!? Seriously, you’ve got to watch out for Mary. I wouldn’t put it past her. She’s not playing around. And lastly, Bakarina is a pro at finding traps. If only she didn’t trigger every single one when finding them!
