The CW just wrapped up its first season of Batwoman to solid results overall and coming after bringing the character in during the crossover event two seasons ago, it’s been a good inclusion overall. With word recently of a Superman & Lois crossover being in the works for next season with Batwoman, it’s now been revealed that series lead Ruby Rose is departing the role of Kate Kane / Batwoman. By all appearances it looks to be a mutually agreed upon thing and that the hard run that a TV series is wasn’t something that Rose was ultimately up for after focusing more on movies and limited TV roles.

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said in a statement “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

Berlanti’s production company is going to recast the role but we’ll have to wait and see if they find a reason in-show to do it or if they just move forward without making any reference to it. With a comic book based show, the possibilities are certainly there for something creative.

The series airs on The CW with streaming the day after through their site and app.

The main cast includes Ruby Rose as Kate Kane / Batwoman, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane, and Elizabeth Anweis as Catherine Hamilton-Kane.

Plot Concept: Three years after billionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne and his vigilante alter-ego Batman disappeared, his cousin Kate Kane sets out to overcome her demons and become a symbol of hope by protecting the streets of Gotham City as Batwoman.
