Picked up for a ten-episode run in 2017, Netflix has renewed The Umbrella Academy for a second season back in April 2019, not long after the first season came out. The series brought out its first season on February 15th, 2019 on the streaming service to pretty solid reviews from both critics and audiences alike. Not surprisingly, the main cast is coming back for the second season which is slotted for another ten episodes. And we now finally have a date for it as Netflix has dropped an utterly delightful announcement video below that sets for a July 31st, 2020 debut. We’re definitely excited for that.

The series stars Aidan Gallagher, Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, John Magaro, Ashley Madekwe, and Kate Walsh. The show is produced by Universal Cable Productions for Netflix, with Steve Blackman serving as executive producer and showrunner, and additional EPs Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Gerard Way, and Gabriel Bá.

Plot Concept: In an inexplicable worldwide event, forty-seven extraordinary children were spontaneously born to women who’d previously shown no signs of pregnancy. Millionaire inventor Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of the children; when asked why, his only explanation was, “To save the world.” These seven children form the Umbrella Academy, a dysfunctional family of superheroes with bizarre powers. Their first adventure at the age of ten pits them against an erratic and deadly Eiffel Tower, piloted by the fearsome zombie-robot Gustave Eiffel. Nearly a decade later, the team disbands, but when Hargreeves unexpectedly dies, these disgruntled siblings reunite just in time to save the world once again.
