We’ve had a lot of stuff coming out recently for The Mandalorian in terms of casting teases, directors being revealed, and a third season in the works as well. And then there’s the Disney Gallery series showing off a lot of behind the scenes material. The latest bit of casting news has come down via Slashfilm, which hasn’t been confirmed by Lucasfilm, in that Katee Sackhoff has indeed landed a live-action role in the series. The actor has done voice work in The Clone Wars for years as the Mandalorian character of Bo-Katan, including appearing in the final arc of the series that just aired on Disney+. Sackhoff has long indicated she’d love to take the role to live-action and the report indicates that she did the work back in February on set before the lockdown.
We don’t have a full list of directors for the second season yet but two more were revealed recently during May the Fourth with Peyton Reed (Ant-Man and the Wasp) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City). Rodriguez isn’t too surprising of a choice as he and Favreau had an episode together of The Chef Show while Reed’s time in the world of Marvel probably provided an opening for him to get involved here as well, especially as you can see Lucasfilm wanting to build out their IP and taking some cues from the Marvel method.
Bryce Dallas Howard is expected to return as well from the first season while Deborah Chow is heading up the Cassian Andor series. Taika Waititi isn’t returning but is heading up a separate Star Wars feature film.
Lucasfilm previously revealed that the cast in that it would include Pedro Pascal along with Gina Carano and Nick Nolte. We also got an expanded list of who is involved with Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
Jon Favreau is writing it and working as an executive producer on the series. Dave Filoni of the animated side will be directing the first episode while other directors include Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, and Rick Famuyiwa. Greg Fraser from Star Wars: Rogue One is on board as the cinematographer.
Plot Concept: After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
