Funimation Adds ‘Death Parade’ Anime Opening Streaming – Four Years Later

2 min read
Decim is the lone bartender of the Quindecim bar, but his true profession is an arbiter--a judge of where one’s soul is sent after death.

I enjoy the way that the various streaming services bring out the opening and closings of shows each season because I find them to be really useful ways of introducing people to a property with the best face of a show and the catchy hook of a song. One show that came out back in 2016 was that of Death Parade, a curious little property that got some good attention but apparently never added its theme songs to it. Funimation has now rectified that with the opening theme song “Flyers” by BRADIO now available on YouTube and serving as a launching point for the service to encourage people to check out the show itself, which may have been missed previously but a lighter spring season means a potential chance to check it out.

Check out our review of the North American edition.

The twelve episode series was produced at Madhouse with original creator Yuruzu Tachikawa directing. Shinichi Kurita worked on it as the character designer and chief animation director. The series stars Tomoaki Maeno, Asami Seto, Rumi Ookubo and Yoshimasa Hosoya. The English language cast, directed by Zach Bolton and Cris George, includes Alex Organ as Decim, Jamie Marchi, Jad Saxton as Nona, Anastasia Munoz as Quin, Z. Charles Bolton as Clovis, Eric Vale as Takashi and Trina Nishimura as Machiko.

Plot Concept: When two people die at the same time, they’re sent to a place that’s neither heaven nor hella lavish bar between worlds where the stakes are high and the rules are simple: if you win you live again, if you die you’re gone for good.

Decim is the bartender charged with serving the souls who enter Quindecim. He may make a mean cocktail, but his true profession is to play the role of arbiter judge who determines whether or not a soul is worthy of reincarnation. To aid in his judgment, the bar’s patrons are forced to play simple games laced with sadistic twists designed to bring their true natures to light. To Decim, judgment has always been black and whitethat is until he meets a mysterious young woman whose fate seems impossible to decide. His indecision shakes the very foundation of the games and raises the biggest question of all: Who is fit to judge the dead?
