With three seasons of anime adaptations out there and a couple of different manga spin-off series as well, Kugane Murayama’s Overlord series has scheduled its ending. Sort of. The novel series has been going for some time with just last month seeing the release of the fourteenth volume. Now, Murayama has more formally confirmed that the series will end with its seventeenth volume, which means he definitely has a plan for it. It was two years between the release of the previous two volumes so it could be awhile before we do get to the end, but we at least know there’s an endpoint coming for it – and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the scheduling is being done to accommodate a bit more anime as well.

The three-season anime series comes from author Kugane Maruyama with illustrations by so-bin that’s published by Enterbrain. It began in the summer of 2012 and released its fourteenth volume earlier this year. The series has had two drama CDs released with previous volumes.

It’s been animated by Madhouse with Naoyuki Itou directing it based on scripts by Yukie Sugawara and character designs by Takahiro Yoshimatsu as they adapt from the original works.

The series stars Kenta Miyake as Cocytus, Manami Numakura as Narberal Gamma, Masayuki Katou as Demiurge, Shigeru Chiba as Sebas Tian and Yumi Uchiyama as Mare Bello Fiore.

Plot Concept: This land will fall to his command—the overlord is back! While Ains Ooal Gown’s conquest over Yggdrasil is bearing fruit, a deadly power struggle between empires could lead to Ains’ downfall. But that’s the least of his worries. Despite praise from his subjects, Momonga is finding it harder and harder to keep up the act as the terrifying Ains. On top of it all, Nazarick is being invaded. Can the mighty overlord maintain his reign, or will this be his final stand?
