Sony Developing Live-Action ‘One-Punch Man’ Feature Film For Franchise

One-Punch Man Hulu HeaderThe One-Punch Man property has done well with its manga overseas moving a lot of numbers while the anime has spread far and wide with streaming and broadcast runs. Now, it’s getting ready to move to the live-action side as Sony Pictures has announced an adaptation in development, according to Variety. The film is set to be produced by Avi Arad and Ari Arad with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner working on the screenplay for it.

The writers are definitely ones that the studio is having good success with as Venom made huge money for the studio and they wrote both of the Jumanji films of the last couple of years.

The anime adaptation was being produced by Madhouse for the animation with Shingo Natsume set to direct based on the overall scripts by Tomohiro Suzuki. Chikashi Kubota is on board to handle the character designs for it.

The manga comes from ONE and Yusuke Murata, which began in 2012 in Tonari no Young Jump online after it was originally started back in 2009 by Murata online.

Viz Media is releasing the manga in North America in both print and digital form.

Plot concept: In this new action-comedy, everything about a young man named Saitama screams “AVERAGE,” from his lifeless expression to his bald head, to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking fellow doesn’t have your average problem… He’s actually a superhero that’s looking for tough opponents! The problem is, every time he finds a promising candidate he beats the snot out of them in one punch. Can Saitama finally find an evil villain strong enough to challenge him? Follow Saitama through his hilarious romps as he searches for new bad guys to challenge!
