Cassian Andor Disney+ Series Adds Stellan Skarsgard & Kyle Soller

3 min read

With the success of The Mandalorian, that’s going to put some real pressure on the Cassian Andor series that’s tied to the Rogue One film. We’ve had the expected casting with Diego Luna reprising Cassian while Alan Tudyk will portray K-2SO once again and now some additional casting has surfaced that’s going to be exciting on some level to some. For me, I’m almost always thrilled to see Stellan Skarsgard in a project as he gets interesting roles and has a certain flair with them. He’s now signed into this project in an unlisted part along with Kyle Soller, who was last seen in 101 Dalmation Street.

Tony Gilroy previously joined the production and is slated to write the pilot and direct some part of the series. Gilroy stepped in during some of the troubled production aspects of the Rogue One film where he handled the reshoots for it. Stephen Schiff of The Americans is serving as the showrunner for the project.

In January, we saw the casting call go out that hints at some of what the show will deal with, using code names as they often do. The casting call included:

  • Mundo is a thirteen-year old, Hispanic male. The young teen has a head full of brown hair and big, passionate eyes. Needs to have a wide range from still calm to uncontrolled anger.
  • Mundo is a nine-year old, Hispanic male. A wild and unruly kid with a head full of brown hair and big, passionate eyes. Also needs to have a wide range from still calm to uncontrolled anger.
  • Cinta is 5-7 year old Hispanic female. Cinta has a head full of brown hair and big eyes. A wild and unruly kid who, what do you know, needs to have a wide range from still calm to uncontrolled anger.

One thing to remember is that based on past reveals, Cassian’s parents were Separatists, which is a side that in the live-action side hasn’t been explored much and can provide for a distinctly different view than what we usually get.

Marvel Comics previously produced a special for the character and K2-SO (who we’re hoping will be a big part of this) and this project is definitely what I’m hoping for when it comes to original live-action TV projects for the property. One of the themes of the Rogue One film involved Andor talking about how he’d been fighting for so long and done so many dark things in order to help the growing Rebellion. The chance to explore some of that is definitely exciting, much as it was to get the backstory we did in the Catalyst novel for the Rogue One film that explored Jyn’s parents and the nature of how the Empire started strip-mining worlds after the end of the prequels.

Check out our review of the film.

Plot Concept: The series will follow the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One.
