From the creators of the original Ninja Scroll movie!

With a previous release behind us way back when, Discotek Media has done a license rescue on the Ninja Scroll TV series. The twelve-episode series is getting done as a new Blu-ray release on June 30th, 2020 where it’s going the upscale route (see tweet below). The set is priced at $39.95 and will be bilingual in nature. There are also extras for it but they’re not solicited yet for the finalized package.

Originally airing in 2003, it was directed by Tatsuo Sato based on the series composition by Toshiki Inoue. Takahiro Yoshimatsu worked on adapting Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s original character designs and Madhouse worked on the production for it.

The Japanese cast includes Houko Kuwashima as Shigure/Hikari no Miko, Rikiya Koyama as Jubei Kibagami, Romi Park as Tsubute, and Yuzuru Fujimoto as Dakuan.

The English dub, which saw release through Urban Vision, was directed by Jack Fletcher and had a cast that includes Daisy Torme as Shigure / Priestess of the Light, David Rasner as Jubei Kibagami, and Dwight Schultz as Dakuan.

Plot Concept: In feudal Japan, the Edo period brought a time of delicate peace bought with blood. This is a chronicle of the life of Jubei Kibagami as he wanders the countryside as a ninja for hire. At this time, ninja clans are everywhere. One clan, known as the Hiruko Clan, doomed to live and die in darkness, protects a sacred treasure called the Dragon Stone.

The Kimon Clan, however, bent on reviving the power of the Toyotomi, wants the Dragon Stone and the treasure it hides. Jubei Kibagami is the best the man for the job of protecting both the Dragon Stone and the only one whom can use it – The Light Maiden!
