What They Say
This chapter was released from the upcoming Vanilla Essence book collection.

Adorned with thick-rimmed glasses, gorgeous slender hair and a shapely body, Miyuki is your typical hot nerdy girl, but recent developments have pulled her out of her shell. After finding an unmarked SD card, she finds a bunch of videos of her classmates having sex all over school! With her inner urges awakened, she takes her newfound information and proceeds to make her own videos, voyeuristically filming her peers in their most intimate moments.

As she looks through the lens at her classmates, Miyuki’s body feels a rush and she starts touching herself while focusing on the action. She suddenly hears the click of a camera, and realizes she’s not the only person filming the action as she’s been caught in the act by a classmate! And Miyuki has never been more turned on in her life!

The folks at FAKKU have their edition of Vanilla Essence coming up for release this summer and this comes after a different distributor brought it out back in 2016, which is selling on secondary markets for exorbitant prices. I’ve read a bit of Yamatogawa’s stuff over the years but haven’t seen any in quite some time, so when a few chapters ended up in my library at FAKKU I figured it was a good time to check back in. The appeal of the creator is strong with good storytelling, beautiful and varied character designs, and a good sense of fun mixed into it as well. While there’s a good range to their works there’s almost always a good bit of grounded reality to it that makes it very easy to connect with and become invested in. And that’s some of the best kinds of hentai manga to me.

This chapter introduces us to Izumino and Takuma, two members of the swim team at the school. Takuma’s on the reserves and he’s at the rooftop pool where he’s doing the cleaning before filling it with water. The rest of the reserves have ditched and that’s meant it’s all up to him. Luckily, he gets some help from Izumino, his girlfriend who is also one of the up and coming top stars of the actual team and not on the reserves. There’s some good playfulness between the two as they clean and she’s enjoying teasing him since when her school uniform gets wet it reveals a bikini she’s wearing underneath, prepared for such an eventuality. The problem is that she’s not supposed to be there as the team is off elsewhere so when one of the advisors comes to the top to check on the progress she has to hide while Takuma gets chided over the laziness of youth.

This, however, is right in line with Izumino’s plans as she takes advantage of being hidden in the empty pool out of sight and torments poor Takuma, who has to keep a straight face. The follow-up has some real fun in dialogue about how they view each other when swimming that’s nice and it leads into her reveal of having the place locked down now. It’s a beautiful moment as we see her from his view as she lays him out on his back so it’s her and the sky above. This leads into something that starts well but turns into really intense material as both of them really do drive each other pretty wild. While the majority of it is beautiful, especially as the water slowly rises in the pool and we get good use of the swimsuit itself, there are moments where it’s just such a rush that things blur a bit more than I care for as it shifts between things, mostly in the use of motion and the water. But that’s a minor thing because the couple that we get to watch here are just so totally into each other and expressive that you get caught up in all of that energy.

In Summary
Yamatogawa is a talent to be sure and sometimes it’s the simple stories that reinforce it the most. The pairing that we get here is great in general, the setting is perfect for a number of reasons that up the excitement, and the connection that’s forged makes the reader feel invested. There’s a reason that they’re getting a new book this year that brings some of Yamatogawa’s best stories back into print form once again and chapters like this definitely reinforce that. It’s a lot of fun with great detail, expressiveness, and eroticism. Very recommended.
