The fall 2018 anime series Sword Art Online: Alicization began its back half run starting this past October as the final two cour are coming under the name War of Underworld. The second half of War of Underworld has been set for an April 25th, 2020 premiere for awhile but with it being a two-cour run and productions likely shutting down, chances of delays and issues as it progresses were likely going to be introduced. With that in mind, the series has been postponed to the summer season in hopes of being able to get things back on track again, marking this as the third season to be pulled from the summer season.
Aniplex USA previously confirmed that Crunchyroll, Funimation, HIDIVE, and Hulu will all be streaming new episodes of the series as simulcasts. Crunchyroll’s availability is for North America, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. HIDIVE has the US and Canada.
Manabu Ono is directing it and A-1 Pictures handling the animation production. Gou Suzuki, Tomoya Nishiguchi, and Shingo Adachi are handling the character designs.
Plot Concept: Kirito awakens in a vast, fantastical forest filled with towering trees. In his search for clues to the truth of his surroundings, he encounters a young boy who seems to know him. He ought to be a simple NPC, but the depth of his emotions seem no different than a human.
As they search for the boy’s parents, Kirito finds a peculiar memory returning to him. A memory from his own childhood, of this boy and a girl, too, with golden hair, and a name he should have never forgotten Alice.
