20th-Anniversary ‘Ojamajo Doremi’ Anime Feature Film Delayed Indefinitely

2 min read

Announced last fall, a new feature film in the Ojamajo Doremi world is coming that’s been formally scheduled for the summer 2020 period. We got the May 15th, 2020 debut at TIFF earlier this year and now the expected delay has been introduced. With emergency measures put in throughout prefectures in Japan, the film has been pushed back to an undated fall time period with details to come later.

The cast includes:

  • Kenta Hamano as Seiya Kubo
  • Shohei Miura as Ryūichi Oomiya
  • Akira Ishida as Hayato Yabe

Going under the name Majo Minarai o Sagashite, which translates to Looking for Witch Apprentices, it’ll be directed by Junichi Sato based on the screenplay by Midori Kuriyama. Yoshihiko Umakoshi is on board with the character designs with Toei Animation handling the production.

Plot Concept: The story follows 27-year-old Tokyo office worker Mire Yoshitsuki who just returned to Japan, 22-year-old fourth-year college student Sora Nagase who aspires to be a teacher, and 20-year-old boyish, part-time Hiroshima okonomiyaki shop worker and freelancer Reika Kawatani. What draws together these three women from completely different walks of life is a magic gem. A “New Magical Story” begins when they are mysteriously brought together by chance and embark on a journey.
