The Review:

The members of Poppin’ Party and RAISE A SUILEN are gathered at Galaxy to discuss their 2nd place tie. They’re informed that both bands will be allowed to perform at the finals! I’m down with seeing three performances! Rokka shares my enthusiasm as she’s super excited to be able to perform with PoPiPa! The next day at school, Lisa tells Yukina that three bands playing in the finals is exciting. Yukina remarks that this changes nothing. Roselia is destined to make it to the top. I completely agree. Elsewhere, Asuka is making a blog for the finals as Ako and Rokka watch. It appears that she joined the volunteer staff without anyone knowing. She wanted to help everyone somehow and this was her answer. That’s adorable. PoPiPa is discussing what to do for the finals and Arisa chimes in that she wants to hear something back at her home. Is it a new song!?

The girls head over to Arisa’s place and excitedly await her surprise! She plays them a new song that she’s been working on since the tournament started. They all think it’s great! Naturally, this causes Arisa to blush which is always adorable. She hopes that Kasumi will handle the lyrics. Of course, she will! Everyone is getting excited to play at the Budokan! The next day, the girls are discussing their new song in the student council room with Rinko and Sayo. They’re still shocked that so many people voted for PoPiPa! They plan to send that love back at their fans through their new song. As Kasumi would say, let the flavor train keep on rolling! Hmm, train? That gives Arisa an idea! By the way, Roselia is doing the same thing with their new song. It was written by Sayo and it’s a song for everyone who has touched their lives or influenced Roselia in some way. PoPiaPa doesn’t know what to do for their setup and they’re not too familiar with the Budokan’s stage. Rinko remarks that Roselia hasn’t even planned theirs yet. Tae suggests asking Rei and Masuki because they’ve actually performed at the Budokan perform.

Of course, the girls of Poppin’ Party decide to pay RAS a visit to CHU2’s studio. Venturing in the heart of the enemy’s territory, eh? Crazy girls! But they totally ignore CHU2 and instead admire how big her studio is! They’re also offered jerky cookies by PAREO. But…but…those are her jerky cookies! Poor CHU2. On a side note, I wonder how jerky cookies taste? Anyway, let’s get back on track. Kasumi asks what the Budokan is like. Masuki responds that it’s massive, holds a lot of people, and…is massively huge! Kasumi’s eyes sparkle as she jots down everything she says. Arisa remarks that Masuki is basically a Kasumi clone, haha. Rei adds that the stage rotates and you may forget which way you’re facing. She suggests that it’d be a good idea to choose a landmark beforehand so that they don’t get confused. Now that’s some good advice! It’s also easy to lose your balance. The Budokan seems like a challenging stage indeed. Clearly, they need some strength training! Saya suggests they all go for a run. Everyone agrees! Well, not everyone. Arisa and CHU2 aren’t too keen on this idea. It’s also not surprising that they end up being the slowest of the bunch. They weren’t expecting to run today! Unsurprisingly, PAREO is the fastest person out of everyone there. Her speed is unreal! Asuka stops by for an interview and CHU2 tells her to hurry up before she passes out, haha.

Later that night, Kasumi finishes the lyrics for their new song. She sends it to everyone and they’re all impressed by how good it is! “Mirai Train” is the name of their song. But why should they only play one song!? One song isn’t enough! They want to play another one at the Budokan. In fact, Kasumi suggests that they invite the other bands for a collaboration. I’m liking this idea! Roselia and RAS agree to collaborate with PoPiPa! Heck yeah! They’re going to play that collaboration song at the end of the concert. The day of the collaboration rehearsal arrives and everyone is going over the schedule and staging designs. Kasumi and Yukina are looking at a poster for the concert. Nice job, Asuka! Yukina remarks that Kasumi always seems to be having fun. She’s not wrong. Kasumi acknowledges that this is true and it’s because being in a band is a blast! Those sparkly, tingly feelings never stop. Yukina adds that her smile is contagious. No wonder PoPiPa concerts always look like they’re so much fun. Again, she’s not wrong. Tomorrow’s the big day! Everyone should get a good night’s sleep.

The big day is here! The finals at the Budokan, baby! Kasumi meets up with Arisa early in the morning. Arisa remembers how Kasumi found her guitar. She thought she was a burglar at the time, haha. Ah, nostalgia. Kasumi proceeds to tickle Arisa because why not? They’ve been through a lot but they can both agree that they’re happy that PoPiPa exists. The others join them a few moments later and it’s off to the Budokan! It doesn’t take them too long to get there since it’s only three stops away! So close, yet so far away. They bump into the members of RAS at the entrance. CHU2 seems to be pretty confident. Rei remarks that she almost drowned last night because she was so nervous about today, haha. It’s a good thing PAREO was there to save her! Arisa is shocked…that they managed to get CHU2 to take a bath! CHU2 walks away embarrassed. Once inside, everyone goes over the stage, lighting, etc. We get a nice scene where Masuki, Rokka, Rinko, Ako, and PAREO all lay down in the middle of the stage and look up at the ceiling while the camera panned upwards. It gave us a sense of how big the Budokan really is. Off to the side, Sayo admits to Lisa that she felt this was all meaningless at first. But you know what? Every stage that Roselia stands on has meaning. One by one, Roselia is going to conquer them all. Dang right! All of the girls rehearse for a bit before it’s time to get ready for the main attraction!

The finals are about to begin! HYPE INTENSIFIES! Poppin’ Party is the first to perform and they’re all sporting some beautifully sparkly outfits. Everyone is excited…except Rimi. She’s sad!? Why is she sad!? She explains that every day has been so much fun! The moment they step on this stage, it’s all over. The stage rises and PoPiPa is in front of a cheering crowd! Kasumi suggests they do their chant. Now!? Yes, now! PO-PI-PA! PI-PO-PA! PO-PI-PA-PA-PI-PO-PA! The fans also knew their chant and chanted along with them! This was a nice little moment. Rimi seems to have calmed down a bit. That’s good because they’re performing right now! Kasumi addresses the crowd and tells them that this song is a way of saying thank you for their support. She hopes they can all sparkle and tingle together!

Alright, I know this is a review but from here on forward, it’s basically going to be me fanboying over all of the amazing performances. You have been warned. Honestly, my words cannot do justice in describing how awesome this concert was. It’s something you should watch and experience for yourself. Anyway, PoPiPa performs their new song, “Mirai Train.” Their lighting was very colorful and the stage perfectly set the mood for what Kasumi wanted to accomplish – making everyone sparkle and tingle together! Good song and good performance!

RAISE A SUILEN is up next! They huddle together backstage and decide to do a chant! Adorable. LAYER leads the chant and says that they’re going to do this their way! Yeah! The members of RAS walk out the stage in their usual outfits. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, right? Their outfits have always been cool. They extravagantly introduce each member, as they always do, and then begin playing their song, “Beautiful Birthday.” Honestly, I wasn’t expecting this song choice. Don’t get me wrong, I love “Beautiful Birthday” but I was hoping for a new song. D’aww well. Their performance is filled with smoke and those neon blue strobe lights that are a staple of RAS’ performances. Great song and great performance!

Those first two performances were pretty cool but now it’s time for the queens to take the stage! Yes, I know my bias is showing, again. But you know what? I don’t even care! I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ROSELIA PERFORMANCE FOR WEEKS SO FORGIVE ME IF I’M A LITTLE BIT TOO EXCITED ABOUT IT. Yukina proclaims to the others that it’s time they show everyone a show they’ll never forget. The lights in the Budokan dim and an organ begins to play. The girls of Roselia walk to the stage each holding a candle in their hands. Once they reach the stage, they blow the candle out and the lights turn back on, revealing their outfits that look like battle armor! They even have capes! They haven’t even started playing but I think it’s obvious that they already won this competition. ROSELIA IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST! YOU CAN’T CHANGE MY MIND! Anyway, Roselia performs their new song, “Avant-garde HISTORY.” You already know that I LOVED this performance. They’re just so cool! Even CHU2 agrees with me! One cool thing to note about this performance was that Yukina was on a platform elevated above the rest of the members. I thought it was pretty rad.

After Roselia’s performance, it’s time for the fans to vote for the winner! And the results are in! Who better to announce the results than the owner herself, Shisen from Miraska! She tells everyone that they did a fantastic job. They really did! And now, the grand prize winner is…ROSELIA! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I TOLD YOU THEY WERE GOING TO WIN! IT WAS INEVITABLE! WOOOOOOOOOOO! ROSELIA! Okay, that’s enough fanboying from me. But that’s not the only award being handed out!? RAISE A SUILEN wins the prize for best performance and Poppin’ Party wins the best prize for best band. I don’t agree with this. Roselia should have also won best performance and best band. That’s just my humble, totally unbias opinion. Regardless, all of the girls seem very happy with the results! This right here is the girl band generation!

But the fun isn’t over yet! There’s still one performance left and it’s that collaboration song! Poppin’ Party, RAISE A SUILEN, and Roselia sing this season’s ending theme together and it’s spectacular. Again, my words alone can’t express how amazing this performance was. It’s something you have to see for yourself. As much as I loved Roselia’s performance, this was undoubtedly the best performance of the episode and season. I just love how much fun everyone had playing and interacting with each other. It was beautiful and warmed my heart. The audience was definitely into it and we saw some familiar faces in the crowd like the members of Glitter*Green and CHiSPA! I appreciated that. This was an awesome way to close the season. I couldn’t be happier.

In Summary:
Do you know that feeling of sadness and emptiness that you have when a really good anime you watched ends? That’s how I’m feeling right now. Let me tell you right now, if you ever feel like this after an anime ends, then you know you watched something that you really enjoyed. There were four performances in the last episode! Four! And they were all great! Honestly, it’s been an absolute joy watching each and every one of these bands grow throughout the season. RAISE A SUILEN definitely got a lot of focus this season and learning all of their stories was great. But you can’t forget about Poppin’ Party and Roselia! Especially Roselia. I know, my bias is showing again. Both of these bands have grown so much since the start of the series. I’m very proud of them. In the end, there could only be one winner and it was Roselia. ROSELIA IS THE BEST AND DON’T YOU FORGET IT! Sorry about that. Actually, I’m not sorry. But seriously, they’re all winners in my book. That collaboration performance at the end was everything I ever wanted from this show. The feels, the feels. I may or may not have shed a tear. Dare I dream of a fourth season for this anime? Is it too much to ask for? If BanG Dream! did come back for a fourth season, I’d love for the focus to be on Afterglow, Pastel✽Palettes, or Hello, Happy World. I think they deserve some time to shine, too. While adorably awesome, those shorts don’t count! In fact, let’s throw Morfonica into the mix as well! I know I’m asking for a lot but I can dream, can’t I? In conclusion, this was a great finale and an amazing season of BanG Dream!

Grade: A (both episodes together)
