Crunchyroll Adds ‘Zashikiwarashi no Tatami-chan’ As ‘The House Spirit Tatami-chan’ For Spring 2020 Anime Lineup

The spring 2020 anime series Zashikiwarashi no Tatami-chan is set for an April 10th, 2020 debut in Japan and some overseas distribution has now come to light. Crunchyroll has confirmed their pickup for it for the season with plans for a same-day streaming at 7:15 am ET for their members. Availability is set for viewers in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS. It’ll be localized as The House Spirit Tatami-chan.

Coming from manga creator Rensuke Oshikri, the project is being crowdfunded on a goal of $46,000 to pull it all together. Oshikiri intends to write and draw the project as well as direct it.

The previously Japanese cast includes:

  • Shiori Izawa as Tatami-chan
  • Satomi Arai as Ōya
  • Tomokazu Sugita as Kusuguri Bōzu
  • Yōji Ueda as Pom Poko Maru
  • Keiji Fujiwara as Karaoke Parlor Manager
  • BB Gorō as Inanogawa

The series features the opening theme song of “Catch Your Sweet Mind” as performed by ORESAMA.

Plot Concept: The “pleasant horror gag comedy” centers around the life of Tatami-chan, a sardonic ghost from Iwate Prefecture who is now living in Tokyo among other spirits, supernatural entities, and humans. In addition to dealing with otherworldly matters, the unemployed Tatami-chan has to deal with job-hunting as well as paying for gas, water, and electricity.
