The initial cringe is certainly strong here but Michiking finds a way to have his cake and eat it too.

Virgin hentai manga creators continue to amuse me.

Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten from the July 2015 installment, Fantasy Author Bonjiri-sensei is an eighteen-page story from creator Michiking, who has nearly fifty other works on the service. Their name came up in a suggestion the other day so I figured I’d take a look since if I liked their work there was a lot in the backlist to take a peek at. This one is the earliest title out there – and got the most recs as ell I think – so it was an easy choice. Michiking’s style is one that definitely works well as there’s a lot of appeal to the designs and our lead here in sensei is also, as is said in story, has a little meat on her bones to provide some welcome thiccness we don’t always get a lot of.

The story focuses on hentai manga-ka Bonjiri-sensei, a talented young woman who puts together some pretty strong works. Her latest one is giving her a lot of trouble and she doesn’t know how to end it. Compound that with her assistants not showing up and a deadline in 24 hours and she’s in a real pinch. Editorial has sent her an assistant, however, and young Keita has shown up excitedly to help out as he’s both professional and a real fan of her work. The problem is that Bonjiri is deathly afraid of men because her view of them is that of the hardcore takers of hentai manga and not the reality. Keita’s got plenty of innocence about him and while she can’t get rid of him she’s on edge with him around all day. Even as he does nothing to actually warrant worry. He’s pleasant, shows off the limited editions he has of her work, and puts in a wonderfully solid job.

Yet her mind always envisions him coming up from behind and groping her and taking advantage of her. So, when the two do finish late at night, she thinks he heads home on the train after sharing a beer with him and passes out. Only to awaken to him aggressively using her body and eventually getting her to coming around to liking it and wanting it – just gentle. There is a twist within this that salvages it from being a sexual assault story, for which I’m grateful, and you can just enjoy the visuals as Bonjiri is taken advantage of. She’s got a really nice design about her and the work from home in the tight shorts outfit goes a long way toward a lot of her appeal. When she’s fully engaged in events it’s a lot of fun but there’s some amusement to the way that she handles her envisioned attacks of Keita earlier during the workday as they’re all things that she, in her own way, may secretly want with how she writhes with it all.

In Summary
The initial cringe is certainly strong here but Michiking finds a way to have his cake and eat it too. The main draw was the appeal of the character designs as Bonjiri-sensei is definitely well-handled here and that the story makes note of it – from her own mind – makes it all the more delightful. There are a lot of fantasy elements at play here and the structure of the story works well so that we get lots of little doses, a good bit of character material, and a fun setting for everything. I’m definitely interested in seeing more of this network of people that Michiking has set up with other the editors and the like that are in the library here.
