A new anime is in the works with the adaptation of the Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san manga by Aiko Koyama. The project is coming via NHK with details to be revealed at a later date. The manga from Koyama began in 2016 in Weekly Shonen Sunday and it has thirteen volumes so far. Click on the tweet below to see the promo that’s embedded just on their news item page.

Plot Concept: Set in Kyoto’s “hanamachi” geisha quarter, after geisha finish their work late at night, they spend the night resting at a lodge to prepare for the next day. The story centers on Kiyo, an Aomori native who works as a cook in a geisha lodge in Kyoto after finishing junior high school and leaving home. She also has a friend named Sumire who is a maiko, or apprentice geisha.
