Andy Weir and his novel The Martian was all the buzz a few years back when the Ridley Scott film was made with Matt Damon and it lead to several other projects being set up that are in various phases at the moment. But when it comes to his novel writing and what they could generate for a film, there’s greater interest. MGM is currently in exclusive talks to acquire his latest work, Project Hail Mary, with a seven-figure sum being talked about.
The project, which doesn’t have a lot publicly known about it at the moment, has Ryan Gosling attached to star and produce with Ken Kao producing as well for MGM. The book is still a way off from publication as it’s set for a spring 2021 but that would provide a good window for MGM to work with.
Weir’s second novel, Artemis, is currently picked up by Fox with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller set to direct it.
Plot Concept: The book is described as a solitary tale of an astronaut on a space ship who is tasked with saving the planet.
