With strong sales of the manga in Japan and an anime that did well there but was criminally neglected here, we learned in early November 2019 that the third season of Kingdom had gotten the green light. With the spring season right around the corner, the official site has rolled out a new promotional video while also offering up a premiere date of April 5th, 2020 for the series on NHK.

This season changed up the staffing side as it features Kenichi Imaizumi directing based on the scripts by Noboru Takagi. Hisashi Abe is on board for the character designs with animation production by Studio Signpost.

They join Yuya Uchida as Shun Shin Kun, Miou Tanaka as Kan Mei, and Atsuko Tanaka as Ka Rin. Additional casting includes Daisuke Namikawa as Go Hou Mei (Wu Feng Ming), Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Kou Yoku (Xiang Yi), and Yūto Uemura as Haku Rei (Bai Li).

Plot Concept: When low-born servant boys, Piao and Xin, set out to become the world’s greatest war generals they quickly find themselves caught up in a violent struggle between two noblemen plotting to overthrow the King. After Piao is killed protecting the rightful ruler of the kingdom of Qin, Xin sets out on a campaign for revenge that leads him straight into the fire of war. Now, with a target on his back and an army of enemies standing in his way, it will be up to a boy with no name and a young king without a throne to return order to their war-torn country in this historical action-drama based on the Tezuka Award-winning manga.
