A new anime adaptation is in the works from the manga world with Rent-A-Girlfriend, which was recently scheduled for a summer 2020 debut in July. The Japanese side has brought out a new update with a character video for the character of Ruka Sarashina as played by Nao Tōyama. It clocks in at just under a minute and gives us a good feeling for the animation style of the show. Check out the Tweet below it with the new character visual for her as well.

The series will be directed by Kazuomi Koga based on the scripts from Mitsutaka Hirota. Kanna Hirayama is handling the character designs with TMS Entertainment working on the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Sora Amamiya as Chizuru Mizuhara
  • Aoi Yūki as Mami Nanami
  • Nao Tōyama as Ruka Sarashina
  • Rie Takahashi as Sumi Sakrasawa
  • Shun Horie as Kazuya Kinoshita

The manga from Reiji Miyajima began in 2017 and has twelve volumes to its name as of its anime announcement. The property is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine with Kodansha Comics bringing it out in English in 2020.

Plot Concept: In Japan, the lonely have a new way out — online services that rent out dads, children, even girlfriends! When Kazuya’s true love dumps him, he’s just desperate enough to try it, and he’s shocked at how cute and sweet his rental girlfriend turns out to be. But she wants to keep their “relationship” a secret, and there’s a complication… she goes to his university… and their grandmothers are in the same home… and they live next door to each other?! And Kazuya finds out she’s not nearly as nice in “real life”.
