Like a lot of films of this nature, Soul has been in the works for awhile. Coming from Pete Docter, it was initially moved forward back in 2016 and was adjusted when his own position in Pixar moved upward. Set for a June 19th, 2020 debut, we had a teaser last fall but now the first full trailer has been released for the project.

Directed by Pete Docter based on the story he wrote and a screenplay that was co-written with Mike Kones, Kemp Powers, and Tina Fey, the cast includes Jamie Foxx as Joe Gardner, Tina Fey as 22, Questlove as Curly, Phylicia Rashad as Joe’s mother and Daveed Diggs as Paul.

Plot Concept: Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher, has long dreamed of performing jazz music onstage, and finally gets a chance after impressing other jazz musicians during an opening act at the Half Note Club.

However, an untimely accident causes Gardner’s soul to be separated from his body, and transported to the “You Seminar”, a center in which souls develop and gain passions before being transferred to a newborn child, and Gardner must work with souls in training, such as 22, a soul with a dim view on life after being trapped for years at the You Seminar, in order to return to Earth before it’s too late.
