It’s a cute little story that many of us book lovers would have loved to have had happened.

Why not both?

Originally serialized in Comic Bavel from the March 2020 installment, Strong Trip is a four-page story from creator Tamazatou, who has three other works on the service. I’ve not explored the color side of what FAKKU has nor the short-form stories like this all that much as I’ve preferred to stick to the stories of the twenty-plus pages. But I figured it was worth taking the plunge once in a while, just like short-form anime, to see what it’s like. This also marked my first experience with Tamazatou and they’ve definitely got some nice design work even if they skew toward the younger-looking side. What continues to really get me with the shorts is that since they’re done in full-color you can really appreciate the difference that doing so brings to certain works. The outfit for Shiori in this just feels all the richer and more tactile than it would in just a black and white page.

The story is cute enough in that our nameless male lead has found himself at the library again because it is his favorite place to spend time. But it’s become a lot more interesting lately once he met Shiori, a fellow student in a black uniform with yellow striping that enjoys curling up reading there herself. But her excitement is also in that they find the little nooks and crannies in the library to curl up in and partake of each other’s company, with her often more in control of the situation and getting what she wants. This chapter shows her giving over some of that control to him to let him be as hungry and aggressive as he wants, which ups the action ante nicely. Within the four pages, only three of them focus on the encounter but all of them look great with a really strong sense of design and flow that makes me wish we got longer stories like this.

In Summary
While I don’t think I’m going to be won over by hentai shorts like I am anime shorts, there’s definitely some appeal to be had with them. The big draw is just how different a strong color job can do in bringing new aspects of it to life and heightening the situation. I liken colored hentai to be like lingerie as opposed to nude in that it just has that extra layer to it that adds to the eroticism. This chapter is cute and I really like Shiori’s outfit as well as the details and design for the backgrounds of the location in which it unfolds. It’s a cute little story that many of us book lovers would have loved to have had happened.
