My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising Movie Review

3 min read
You’ll be blown away by these true heroes – and expect a few surprises!

The Plus Ultra of teamwork.

What They Say:
The number one hero anime is back in theaters for a battle beyond anything fans have ever seen!
Class 1-A visits Nabu Island where they finally get to do some real hero work. The place is so peaceful that it’s more like a vacation … until they’re attacked by a villain with an unfathomable Quirk! His power is eerily familiar, and it looks like Shigaraki had a hand in the plan. But with All Might retired and citizens’ lives on the line, there’s no time for questions. Deku and his friends are the next generation of heroes, and they’re the island’s only hope.

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Class 1-A gets the opportunity to do hero work on Nabu island through a practical hero work recommendation project. Nabu island doesn’t have a hero assigned to it, so the class helps out, even though it’s mostly odd jobs. Two of the island’s inhabitants are sister and brother, Marharo and Katsuma. Maharo is charged with looking over her little brother while their dad works on the mainland. She’s not a real fan of heroes, but Tatsuma is.

Meanwhile, back on the mainland, there is a slew of quirks being stolen for unknown reasons. Marharo and Katsuma’s dad is one of them. Hawks is on the job looking for the culprit, but little does he know they are on the island and they are looking for Katsuma and his quirk. The culprit is Nine, someone who has been experimented on and can hold up to eight additional quirks including his own. His ability is a lot like All for One, but his body struggles to manage the quirks without deteriorating. He wants Katsuma’s quirk of cell regeneration, so he can be more powerful and create a world where the powerful rule.

Nine and three of his comrades cut communications and invade the island. Class 1-A struggles to keep the islanders safe while battling the villains. They manage to capture one, but the rest elude them. Class 1-A comes up with a plan to keep everyone safe, including Katsuma, while trying to take the remaining villains. They will need everyone to push themselves to the brink and work together or all their efforts will be for nothing.

In Summary:
This film showcases the entirety of Class 1-A and demonstrates how great teamwork can be. Yes, Bakugo too. Bakugo hasn’t had a lot of screen time lately in the weekly anime series, but he is front and center alongside Midoriya fighting a new team of villains. This film is completely a stand-alone film from the series, but it reflects on recent past events. However, that doesn’t mean you need to know everything there is to know about the series to enjoy the film. In fact, bring your friends, neighbors and even your grandma, because this an amazing movie to watch. The action scenes are outstanding, and the passion comes through in the stories and characters. The animation, in particular, is astounding, in this high-action adventure. It’s truly a story of perseverance and selflessness, and that’s a story anyone would enjoy. I hope that the theaters are full, and the cheering is loud enough that it can be heard outside the theater! You’ll be blown away by these true heroes – and expect a few surprises!
