Media Blasters Planning ‘Jungle de Ikou’ Blu-ray Anime Release

2 min read

Another blast from the past is going to get a new lease on life this year with Media Blasters announcing plans for Jungle de Ikou. The three-episode OVA project will be getting a refreshed DVD release and a first-time Blu-ray release in the near future with details to come. It does look like that they may have high definition source materials to work from instead of producing an upscale for it. The release will be bilingual when it does arrive.

The 1997 OVA series was directed by Yuji Moriyama based on the scripts by Haruo Takayama and Yousuke Kuroda. Based on the original work and designs by Yuji Moriyama, it was animated by Chaos Production with Studio Fantasia.

The Japanese cast includes Eri Sendai as Natsume/Mii, Kappei Yamaguchi as Takuma, Megumi Hayashibara as Ongo, Sumi Shimamoto as Rongo, Kaneta Kimotsuki as Aham, Mako Hyoudou as Natsume’s mother, and Ryunosuke Ohbayashi as Natsume’s father.

The English dub, produced by Bang Zoom!, was directed by Eric P. Sherman and the cast includes Barbara Goodson as Rongo and Takuma, Melissa Fahn as Natsumi/Mei, Mona Marshall as Ongo, Dolly Pearl as Mom, Gully Jimson as Dad, and Steve Kramer as Ahem.

Plot Concept: After meeting a dancing old man in what she thinks is just a surreal dream, a preteen schoolgirl embarks on a series of fanservice-filled magical girl adventures with a little creature named Ongo, who might possibly be evil (?), and a shy girl with mysterious powers named Nami.
