Discotek Media revealed back in May 2017 that they had picked up the rights to the Marmalade Boy anime series which TOKYOPOP had previously released. Originally, it was released as two DVD collections with thirty-eight episodes per collection and now a new collection has been set. They brought it out not long after as an SDBD release of the entire series and the movie on two Blu-ray discs priced at $79.95. Now, the show has found its way over to Crunchyroll where it’s streaming in its original Japanese language with English subtitles. One of my favorite romantic comedies of all time, it’s available to viewers in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Central and South America including the Caribbean.
Based on the manga by Wataru Yoshizumi, the series is directed by Akinori Yabe from the series composition by Aya Matsui. Yoshihiko Umakoshi handled the character designs and was animated by Toei Animation.
The Japanese cast includes Jun-ichi Kanemaru as Ginta Suou, Kikuko Inoue as Anju Kitahara, Mariko Kouda as Miki Koishikawa, Ryotaro Okiayu as Yuu Matsuura, Shinichirou Ohta as Satoshi Miwa, Tohru Furuya as Shin’ichi Namura and Wakana Yamazaki as Meiko Akizuki.
The English cast includes Jack Aubree as Satoshi Miwa and Shin’ichi Namura, Kate Davis as Meiko Akizuki, Michael Lindsay as Yuu Matsuura, Michelle Ruff as Miki Koishikawa, Carrie Savage as Arimi Suzuki, Henry Banks as Kei Tsuchiya and Tara Platt as Jinny.
Plot concept: Miki Koishikawa’s parents have always been strange. While deeply caring for their daughter, they’re prone to wasteful spending, oversleeping, and even taking extravagant trips. And their latest trip to Hawaii has brought back something truly outrageous: love. Not for each other, but for a different couple entirely! With her parents planning to divorce and swap partners with the Matsuuras, Miki’s life is turned upside down with a new, highly abnormal family all living together in one house. To top it off, the Matsuuras have a son named Yuu exactly Miki’s age, and he’s too gorgeous for words. For better or for worse, this is Miki’s life now, but adjusting won’t be easy when jealous rivals and old flames enter the mix! Dip into the pot of classic shoujo with this first collection of Marmalade Boy, containing the first 38 episodes! This includes the original Japanese language with English subtitles, and the English dub.
