Fallen from the radar for a long time before it was recently resurrected as a pilot for the HBO Max streaming service that’s launching this year, the DMZ series has now added some additional key casting. We previously learned that the project brought on Rosario Dawson for the leading role where Ava DuVernay is serving as an executive producer and directing the first episode for showrunner Roberto Patino. Now, Benjamin Bratt has come on to play her opposite lead in the role of Parco Delgado. The character is described as “the popular — and deadly — leader of one of the most powerful gangs in the DMZ. He wants to rule the DMZ and will stop at nothing to secure that outcome. Delgado is known as a wildly magnetic, affable and equally influential man.”
The 72 issue series DMZ began in 2005 and ended in 2012, which was created by Brian Wood with Riccardo Burchiellie under the Veritgo Comics imprint of DC Comics.
Plot concept: The story takes place in the near future where America is embroiled in a bitter civil war, leaving Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ – hence the title of the series), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world. Dawson will play fierce medic Alma Ortego, who goes on a harrowing journey of saving lives while desperately searching for her lost son. As she contends with the gangs, militias, demagogues and warlords that control this lawless no man’s land, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone here has lost…hope.
