Marvel Drops More Hulu Animated Projects

2 min read
Whittling away more projects.

Just about a year ago, Marvel TV was announced a number of animated projects that were in the works along with a couple of live-action pieces. The live-action side has seen Ghost Rider nixed while Helstrom is still going forward. The animated side has been quiet and there was hope that as Marvel TV becomes Marvel TV Studios under Kevin Feige that these properties would survive because animated might exist outside of the cohesive MCU. The properties that were announced included:

  • A Howard the Duck series that goes back to the comics and has Kevin Smith and Dave Willis involved in it.
  • Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show where Chelsea Handler will serve as an executive producer and will write it with Eric Rivinoja. The premise involves the two trying to get their lives together in Los Angeles.
  • Marvel’s Hit-Monkey and Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. are going to have Josh Gordon and Will Speck running it with Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum. The Hit Monkey is described as “a pissed off Japanese snow monkey who tries to take on and take down Tokyo’s crime underworld with the ghost of an American assassin by his side” while MODOK focuses on the supervillain with ego and family issues.
  • All of that will come together with the crossover special The Offenders.

Marvel TV Studios has now confirmed that the Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler Show will not be going forward. Both shows appear to have been going forward as of a couple of weeks ago but the slow roll of winding things down has finally hit. Hulu is still looking at Hit-Monkey and MODOK coming, however, but the crossover show essentially feels dead at this point. What likely helped save these two shows is that they were able to hit production much earlier and are progressing along.
