The anime feature film for Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Fine – which is an original work and not a compilation piece – landed in Japan with an October 26th, 2019 debut. The film saw distribution in Singapore previously and we had some material come out for it. Distributor Aniplus Asia is digging into a bit more of what they produced by bringing out an eight-minute interview with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka & Ai Kayano for the project with English subtitles.
The film has Kanta Kamei as the chief director with Akihisa Shibata directing based on the screenplay by Fumiaki Maruto. Tomoaki Takase is handling the character designs with CloverWorks producing the animation.
The Japanese cast includes Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Tomoya Aki, Kiyono Yasuno as Megumi Katō, Saori Ōnishi as Eriri Spencer Sawamura, Ai Kayano as Utaha Kasumigaoka, Sayuri Yahagi as Michiru Hyōdō, Chinatsu Akasaki as Izumi Hashima, and Tetsuya Kakihara as Iori Hashima.
Luna Haruna is coming back to perform the theme song for it as she did with the series and she’ll be performing “glory days.”
The previous two series are based on the light novels that began in the summer of 2012 and ended in 2017 with thirteen volumes as written Fumiaki Maruto with artwork by Kurehito Misaki. The two series were directed by Kanta Kamei based on scripts by Fumiaki Maruto with animation production done by A-1 Pictures. It stars Chinatsu Akasaki as Izumi Hashima and Tetsuya Kakihara as Iori Hashima.

Plot concept: One day, an otaku high school student Tomoya Aki has a fateful encounter with a girl amidst the beautiful cherry blossom trees. This meeting inspires Tomoya to design his very own “gal-game” (dating-simulation video game) featuring a heroine modeled after the girl he saw. In order to make his desire a reality, Tomoya must persuade a few eccentric “creators” such as the ace member of the art club, Eriri Spencer Sawamura and the school’s top student, Utaha Kasumigaoka to join his development team. Meanwhile, Tomoya is shocked to learn that the girl he idolized as his muse for this whole project was none other than his boring classmate, Megumi Kato! But, this doesn’t dissuade Tomoya. He is determined to give Megumi a total make-over within his game and raise her to be the absolute girlfriend that every man desires…!
