The Penny Dreadful series gained quite a strong if small following when the series began airing in 2014 and wrapped up with three seasons in 2016 rather suddenly. Things got moving against last year with the production start for a sequel series set that takes place in 1938 under the subtitle of City of Angels. With that wrapped up and the post-production being worked on, Showtime has now dropped out first trailer for the project and confirmed an April 26th, 2020 debut on the network.

John Logan is returning to write and produce it with production set to begin in 2019.

The cast includes Daniel Zovatto, Natalie Dormer, Jessica Garza, and Johnathan Nieves.

Plot Concept: It opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with Mexican-American folklore and social tension. Rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the Devil, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will explore an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of that period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop.
