We learned in March 2019 that Iro Aida’s manga series Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is getting an anime adaptation which is now set for a January 9th, 2020 debut. As we’re closing in on that debut, TBS Animation has dropped a quick-hit new TV commercial spot highlighting the show and its opening theme song in brief.
Funimation previously confirmed their pickup of the series for streaming ti it showing at the same time and that a simuldub is planned for it as well with date and casting to come later.
The series has Masaomi Andou directing based on the series composition by Yasuhiro Nakanishi. Mayuki Itou is on board with the character designs while Lerche will be producing the animation.
The Japanese cast includes Megumi Ogata as Hanako-kun, Akari Kitō as Nene Yashiro, Shōya Chiba as Kou Minamoto, Yūma Uchida as Teru Minamoto, Minako Sato as Aoi Akane, Chika Anzai as Sakura Nanamine, and Takahiro Mizushima as Natsuhiko Hyūga
It’s known as Jibaku Shōnen Hanako-kun in Japan and began in the magazine in 2014 and has ten volumes out as of the end of this month in Japan. It’s been getting released digitally in English by Yen Press who has the first nine volumes available so far.

Plot Concept: “Hanako-san, Hanako-san…are you there?”
At Kamome Academy, rumors abound about the school’s Seven Mysteries, one of which is Hanako-san. Said to occupy the third stall of the third floor girls’ bathroom in the old school building, Hanako-san grants any wish when summoned. Nene Yashiro, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom…but the Hanako-san she meets there is nothing like she imagined! Kamome Academy’s Hanako-san…is a boy!
