Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
With Black Label still broken down and nearly beaten, the remaining members take a breather with a long flashback provided by Miki. She reveals how the older members of Black Label came to work together. Initially, Miki and Yuuko were classmates, but not friends.
Yuuko was always beautiful and popular at school, but her family life made her keep her distance from everyone. She belonged to the Sagiri family; the head of that family acted as one of the four Demon Protectors of the Tobishiro group. Surprisingly, Yuuko has an older twin sister, Yuko, that has taken the head of the family role since the assassination of their father. The Sagiri family has long been known as master swordsmen and the sisters are just as skilled as any of the ancestors.
Unfortunately, with the death of their parents, the Sagiri sisters no longer have a friendly relationship. While Yuuko was born with a natural gift for swordsmanship, her older sister has had to work for everything she has gained. But with the inheritance of the family leadership going to the older sibling, Yoko has had to deal with her inner jealousy for her sister’s skills while shouldering the responsibility of protecting the Tobishiro as one of the four Demon Protectors.
Will betrayal inside the Tobishiro group be the downfall of the Sagiri twins? Will they be forced to choose between family and duty?
In Summary
This volume covers a long flashback detailing how Yuuko and Miki became friends, how they became altered, and why they fight for Black Label. This is one of my favorite parts of any series, the look into a character’s personality. Plus, this flashback manages to reveal the character development for two of the older characters. Additional revelations include the early establishment of Black Label and how it related to the Tobishiro group. Considering Yuuko is one of my favorite characters in this series, I’m a big fan of this volume and its revelations.
