The fall 2019 anime adaptation of the Magical Sempai manga has its home video release handled by Avex Pictures and they’re going the box set route with it. The series is scheduled for a December 3rd, 2019 debut where it’ll be priced at 19,000 yen and now they’ve put out a for-minute promo for it. This provides a lot of great stills from the show while working through the various tracks of the included soundtrack CD. They definitely look great and hopefully we get a full packaging spread soon so we can get a better look at how it’s all going to come together. The two-disc set comes with an additional CD with the original soundtrack while on-disc extras include the commercials and promotional videos.
The anime adaptation has Fumiaki Usui directing based on the series composition and scripts by Rintarou. Eriko Ito is on board as character designer and chief animation director with LIDEN FILMS handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Kaede Hondo as Senpai, Aoi Ichikawa as Assistant, Eri Kitamura as Saki-chan, Rie Takahashi as Madara-san, Daisuke Namikawa as Ma-kun, and Himika Akaneya as Sister.
The work comes from creator AZU that began in 2016 in Young Magazine and has five volumes out as of fall 2018. Kodansha Comics USA is publishing the series domestically in digital format.
Plot Concept: “I encountered her … a cute, but ‘weird’ sempai!” Magic-loving but stage-fright-addled, this sempai comes with a failure rate of 100%—but you can’t take your eyes off her! The off-color, magical gag manga that’s caused an uproar all over Japan is finally here! Here’s to non-athletic hobbies!
