With a second season in the works, we had the two Made in Abyss compilation films that saw domestic theatrical release as Journey’s Dawn and Wandering Twilight. The new feature film is in the works with the subtitle of Dawn of the Deep Soul is set for a January 17th, 2020 debut in Japan (and Sentai Filmworks has acquired it already) and now the Japanese side has rolled out a new trailer for it.

The show and the film are directed by Masayuki Kojima based on the scripts and screenplay by Hideyuki Kurata. Character designs were handled by Kazuchika Kise with Kinema Citrus on board for the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Miyu Tomita as Riku, Mariya Ise as Regu, Shiori Izawa as Nanachi, Mutsumi Tamura as Natto, Manami Numakura as Shigi, Manami Hanawa as Kiui, Taishi Murata as Jiruo, and Maaya Sakamoto as Raiza.
The opening song is “Deep in Abyss” as performed by Miyu Tomita and Mariya Ise while the ending theme song is “Tabi no Hitarite, Saihate no Migite” by Miyu Tomita and Shiori Izawa.
The original work is by Akihito Tsukushi which began in 2012 and has six volumes out as of the end of 2017 as serialized in Web Comic Gamma.
Plot Concept: Dawn of the Deep Soul continues the epic adventure of plucky Riko and Reg who are joined by their new friend Nanachi. Together they descend into the Abyss’ treacherous fifth layer, the Sea of Corpses, and encounter the mysterious Bondrewd, a legendary White Whistle whose shadow looms over Nanachi’s troubled past. Bondrewd is ingratiatingly hospitable, but the brave adventurers know things are not always as they seem in the enigmatic Abyss…
