“I Discover an Unexpected Side”

What They Say:
Question: What would you do if a girl you liked asked you out on a date? Now imagine it’s not one, but two beautiful girls, the cool beauty, Cosmos, and the cute childhood friend, Himawari!! Of course, you would make plans with both. Except for the “feelings” they confess to you are… Asking me for “romantic advice,” since they’re both in love with someone else. Hahaha… That’s it! I’m not gonna take it anymore! I’m giving up on this obtuse, harmless persona and going back to my true self. But I can’t give up hope here. If I give them my advice, at least one of them may fall in love with me!

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
It’s a brand new morning and Joro heads downstairs after waking up. He’s greeted by his overly cheerful mother. She comments that he doesn’t need lunch because he’s going to grab some food with his friends later. Wait, how does she know that? His mother informs him that she knows because his friend just told him. It’s at this moment that Joro realizes that the friend she’s referring to is none other than Pansy! Joro is terrified to see her sitting in his living room. Joro’s reaction mixed with the dramatic piano playing in the background made this reveal amusingly perfect. The three of them start eating breakfast together and Joro wants to know why she’s here. Pansy admits that she coincidently ran into his mother during her daily stalking. I find it hilarious that Joro’s mother has no qualms about Pansy admitting to stalking her son. In fact, she and Pansy are already acquainted! They met at a bookstore and just hit it off really well since then. Pansy even refers to his mother by the nickname Laurier. Joro is confused by the nickname and his mother explains in great detail how she came up with it. Laurier has the same tendency as her son to come up with weird nicknames, haha. Like mother, like son.

After breakfast, Joro and Pansy make their way to Aqualand for a fun-filled day. Joro is very excited to spend the day at the pool! Why wouldn’t he be? He’s a healthy young man. Nothing beats being surrounded by beautiful girls in swimsuits. Himawari, Cosmos, and Pansy appear a few moments later to show off their own swimsuits. Joro is particularly flabbergasted by Pansy’s swimsuit and can’t resist ogling her for a brief second. Pansy breaks the fourth wall and states that she had to get the mood right for this totally original swimsuit episode. This show is great, it really is. Anyway, it’s time for some fun at the pool! Joro and the gang enjoy the waterpark to the fullest – volleyball, swimming, tubing, and everything in between. They’re all having a great time and it’s nice to see them all smiling.

Joro lost a rock, paper, scissors contest at some point and has to get drinks for everyone. While talking to himself in line, the girl in front of him recognizes his voice. She’s actually the pink-haired girl from his class. To refresh your memory, she’s the girl that damned him the most when the rumors about his misdeeds were circulating. She was extremely mean to him. In a funny turn of events, Joro doesn’t remember who she is! When she starts the scold him, his confused reaction makes her apologize and accept that maybe he isn’t Joro after all. Basically, they’re both strangers to each other at this point. For whatever reason, the girl starts asking Joro for advice. Joro wonders why this girl won’t leave him alone. He gets nervous for a second and hilariously starts looking around to make sure that the dreaded Bench-kun isn’t around. He lets out a sigh of relief when he realizes that the bench isn’t anywhere to be seen. I love this joke so much.

The girl confesses to making a mistake and that she was mean to this one creepy boy. Joro, she called you creepy! She wants to know what she should do in this situation. Joro simply suggests that she should apologize. The girl doesn’t believe that’s enough and feels really bad about how she acted. Joro assures her that as long as she’s sincere with her apology, the boy will understand. The girl is satisfied with that answer. She then wonders if she should apologize with dyed hair. I don’t see why that would matter. Regardless, she asks Joro for his own personal preference. Honestly, that’s an odd thing to ask a supposed stranger. Joro answers that he likes the neat and clean feeling of black hair. The girl is thankful that he answered her questions and buys him a drink as thanks.

Joro eventually returns to give everyone their drinks. The girls all want to spend time with Joro and they decide to have a competition to see who he has the most fun with. Also, Joro has to do whatever the winner says. He didn’t sign up for this! First up is the water slide with Himawari. As he’s going down the slide with her, Joro starts hoping that he’ll get to see the fabled nip slip. Unfortunately for him, he does not get to see it. Instead, his trunks fall off and end up on Himawari’s head. Oh no, his watering can is hanging out for the world to see! Before Himawari can see him in his natural glory, Sun-chan dives in and covers Joro up. It’s about time he started acting like a good friend. Next up is riding the dolphin with Cosmos. Some kids run by the two and remark that they’re a couple of lovebirds. This causes Cosmos to start having some naughty thoughts. She’s so into her fantasizing that Joro is forced to ride the dolphin alone. It’s a solo ride of shame as people laugh at him. Poor guy. But worry not, Sun-chan appears out of nowhere and joins him! Joro is overjoyed and both of them ride into the sunset. That actually happened, haha.

Last but not least, Joro and Pansy relax in the spring. She thanks him for helping her make friends. She had lots of fun with everyone today. Joro proceeds to thank her for giving him the push to make up with them. D’aww, they’re both blushing! Pansy is glad she could help Joro. Now he doesn’t have to buy a book on how to make up with your friends or pay a fortune teller for advice. Wait a minute, how does she know that!? She admits that she knew about that through her daily stalking. Joro isn’t happy about that! Pansy also mentions where he stashes his dirty magazines and their contents. Uh oh, Joro is starting to fall apart! Sun-chan shows up and asks Pansy to stop teasing him before he loses his mind. She agrees and decides to leave him alone for now. Joro just wants a kind woman who’d do her best for him without conditions. Is that too much to ask for?

It’s the end of the day and the girls want to know who won. Joro reveals that the person he had the most fun with today is…Sun-chan! None of the girls even came close. Sun-chan had his back all day and Joro is willing to do anything he asks for. He even pictures himself briefly in a romantic situation with him! My sides, they hurt. This is too funny! Is the BL route actually possible!? The girls can’t believe what they’re hearing and Sun-chan apologizes to them. Joro and Sun-chan both happily skip towards the sunset as the perplexed girls watch from the distance. Best friends forever! Dead, I’m dead. I’ve died from laughing too much.

At school the next day, Joro sees that Asunaro came through with her article. All the girls in class start apologizing to him. Looks like the worst is over for our boy. A girl with neat black hair then sits down next to him. Who is this pure beauty that’s totally his type? Well, remember the pink-haired girl from the waterpark? Yeah, it’s her and she took his advice. By the way, she’s Sasanqua. She also apologizes for being mean to him. He can’t believe she changed so much in just a day. The class is informed that a new student, Yoki, has transferred in. She apparently knows who Joro is but he doesn’t remember her. She proclaims that she is a kind woman who’d do her best for him without conditions. She then gets down on one knee and kisses him on the hand. A new challenger has appeared!

In Summary:
This was most certainly the token fanservice episode. It was inevitable. That being said, I laughed so hard during this episode. There were so many funny moments but the stuff with Sun-chan was pure comedy gold. Their bromance is too strong. I’m starting to think that Sun-chan may very well be the best match for Joro. BL route confirmed? I’m glad the show continues to deliver the quality laughs that I crave. It looks like there are a few new girls entering the mix for Joro’s affection. How will the other girls and Sun-chan react? I can’t wait to find out!
